Respectfully
Reminder to practice
About being polite.
Holding doors open for others, especially if their hands are full or they are less mobile.
Saying “please,” “thank you,” and apologizing sincerely when appropriate.
Letting others go ahead of you in line if they are in a hurry or have only a few items.
Physical consideration
Offering your seat on a bus or train to someone elderly, pregnant, disabled, or clearly tired.
Helping carry heavy bags, boxes, or groceries when someone is struggling.
Offering your umbrella, jacket, or coat if someone else is cold or getting rained on.
Safety and protection
Walking someone to their car or front door at night so they feel safe.
Walking on the curb side of the sidewalk to put yourself closer to traffic or puddles.
Checking that someone got home safely with a quick call or message.
Respectful attention
Putting your phone away and giving someone your full attention during a conversation or date.
Listening without interrupting and taking their feelings seriously.
Introducing people properly and including quieter people in a group conversation.
Thoughtful gestures
Remembering and acknowledging important dates like birthdays or anniversaries.
Bringing small, thoughtful gifts “just because,” such as their favorite snack or a handwritten note.
Offering to help with tasks like cooking, cleaning, or errands without being asked.
Social and public behavior
Being kind and respectful to service workers (waiters, cashiers, drivers) in front of others.
Standing up for someone who is being bullied, disrespected, or harassed.
Apologizing and making amends when you are wrong, rather than getting defensive.
